Merck Lining Pockets of Indiana Legislators?

Hoosiers, listen up.  The outrage in Texas over forced HPV vaccinations is about to hit home.

Senate Bill 327 in Indiana would have originally forced our 6th-grade girls to take Gardasil, a vaccine produced by a pharmaceutical company which is under scrutiny for their devious practices all over the world.  Thanks to the actions of groups like the Indiana Family Institute, the bill has been "watered down" to at least give parents a choice about the vaccination.

Indiana Parents read this and wake up - or the greed of our legislators may go unnoticed!

I'm quoting an entry from the Texas Safety Forum written by Dr. Steven Hotze.  This article points out my concerns exactly..

Steven F. Hotze, M.D.
President, Conservative Republicans of Texas

Dear Fellow Texan,

Well, Governor Perry is at it again! First it was the Perry Business IncomeTax, then his reversal on immigration and now his mandating the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.

Why did Governor Rick Perry reverse his pre–election position and issue an outrageous executive order mandating that all girls in the sixth grade receive the HPV vaccine? He says that it is about saving the lives of women. If this were his true motives, then why did he issue his press release late on the Friday afternoon preceding the Super Bowl? Why didn’t he hold a huge news conference with fanfare, boasting of his efforts?

Perry’s action took place without a single word of public debate. It appears to be a corporate welfare program for Merck, the creator of the vaccine, and will be paid for at the expense of Texas school girls who will be the guinea pigs for this unproven treatment. That’s right, unproven treatment.

This is not a vaccine against cervical cancer; rather it is a vaccine against HPV which is contracted through sexual relations. Merck admits in its own literature that it did not prove that the vaccine would prevent cancer. The HPV vaccine only protects against 4 of the 127 strains of HPV. According to the British medical journal, The Lancet, the vaccine is only effective for 4-1/2 years. A booster injection will be needed every five years. This has not even been discussed. You can count on Merck to lobby to have this booster shot mandated and paid for with tax dollars.

The vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in mid 2006. Remember the FDA does not perform studies on drugs or vaccines prior to approval. The FDA relies solely on studies performed by drug companies. Only one drug company study is required for approval of a product. Merck performed a five year study of its vaccine using 25,000 women, mostly in third world countries. Only 1184 were pre-teenagers.

The average age of a woman with cervical cancer is 48. The effectiveness or dangers of this vaccine will not be known for at least a decade. Cervical cancer results in just 3,700 deaths nationally every year compared to heart disease which kills over 300,000 women annually.

Pharmaceutical companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars to lobby politicians for legislation which will give them financial benefits. Merck’s lobbying efforts on Governor Perry have paid off handsomely. The HPV vaccine has been coined Merck’s “How to Pay for Vioxx.” Merck manufactured Vioxx, an anti-arthritic drug, which was pulled from the market in 2004 because it had caused 125,000 heart attacks. In lawsuits, Merck was found to have withheld information about the cardiac dangers of Vioxx from the FDA, physicians and patients. In the first of many trials, the jury found Merck guilty of knowingly causing harm and awarded punitive damages amounting to $254 million. Merck lost billions in profits when their corrupt behavior was exposed.

Merck developed a plan to recoup their losses. They organized a strategy to have state governments mandate their HPV vaccine. They contributed to medical organizations and to a group, called Women in Government, to buy support for the mandatory vaccination program, and hired lobbyists to swarm the state capitols across the nation, pushing this legislation. Until now, Merck’s efforts had been rejected, but with the help of Governor Perry’s unprecedented executive order, Merck bypassed the Texas Legislature.

The cost of each vaccination is $360. Perry’s mandate will generate over one hundred million dollars every year for Merck in Texas and, if adopted nationwide, would generate billions of dollars more for Merck every year. It is unethical to bail Merck out of its financial troubles by forcing Texans to by their product.

The Texas Medical Association opposes mandatory HPV vaccination.

All these facts make the credibility and motivation of Merck highly suspect. Relying on Merck’s studies for approval of this vaccine is like letting the fox guard the hen house. Merck has already been proven to operate dishonestly.

Perry’s unilateral decision is not based on science but upon personal power, profit and politics. Perry has been trying to position himself as a potential Republican Vice-Presidential candidate.

Texans need to think twice before having this vaccine administered to their daughters.

No public emergency existed for Governor Perry to have assumed dictatorial powers and mandated this vaccine. Perry’s tyrannical actions set a dangerous precedent.

British statesman Lord Acton’s words warn us, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

In order to stop Perry you should can contact your elected legislators and tell them to keep the pressure on Perry to rescind his order. Already 26 State Senators and 80 State Representatives have signed a letter opposing to Perry’s action and calling upon him to rescind his mandate.

"Plan B"

Just wanted to pose a question from my morning drive stream of consciousness. This new(er) birth control pill on the market is often refered to as "Plan B".. Just asking now.. What the heck was the "Plan A"??! Act wreckless like the stupid sluts you see on TV, get loaded beyond all comprehension and have unprotected sex with as many willing participants as possible?

Semi-Spanish Cartoons

I have a 5 year old son, almost 6.  When he was like 2 or so, and started watching some selected cartoons on TV, primarily they were english speaking cartoons.  I have another son who just turned 4.. And, it occurred to me, that in past 2-4 years, the amount of "semi-spanish" speaking cartoons have dramatically increased.. Now we have shows like Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Maya & Miguel, Dragon Tales, and Cooking for Kids with Luis -- to name a few.

Is it just me or is all this going on behind our backs, aimed directly at our children, while we are busy with all of our adult lives?  Are my wife & I some of the only people who are actually aware of what our kids are watching on TV?  Does anyone care or notice the same things I do?  Or am I over-reacting to all of this?  To me, it seems like desensitization.. So that in future years, these crazies will be met with less opposition.

I realize there is a growing hispanic market in America. However, I really have to wonder if there is enough market to justify all this hispanic-favoring programming we're seeing now?

These shows are constantly teaching our English-speaking children the spanish language.  WHY?  Tell me why the heck does my 4 year old son need to know how count to ten in spanish??  Is he going to suddenly find himself in a mexican back-alley trying to barter with a peddler over a few pesos on a knock-off rolex?  I don't understand it!  Why the heck does he need to be able to speak the names of colors in spanish or tell time in spanish?

You know, I wouldn't be opposed to a mostly spanish speaking cartoon that "introduces" english words to these kids whose parents obviously don't give a crap about their child's future.  I can't wait til this kid tries to get a real job speaking broken english or in some ghetto dialect that no one can understand.  Or no, wait.. I'm refering to the world we live in today.. If these people had their way, our children will probably all be speaking spanish as their primary language.

In a time where some of our politcians...

-want to allow illegals to vote
-think it's absurd that some of us citizens want English to be our national language
-give illegals more rights and handouts than citizens (when was the last time you got in-state tuition at an out-of-state college because of your citizenship status?)
-are building some kind of secret highway connecting mexico and canada
-the list goes on..

...are our young and susceptible children somehow being the subjects of pro-illegal alien propaghanda?  Or is there even more to it than just the issue of illegal aliens? What's going on??

In afterword, I hope not too many people take offense to this post, as I am not anti-mexican.  In fact, my wife is partially of hispanic heritage. But for god sakes, she speaks only english and so does her family, the way it ought to be here in the US... And I think latinos have an interesting and important culture...  I'm just anti-people-using-our-media-to-inject-their-liberal-views-on-my-children.

Why I have created this blog..

Hello Parents! This blog will be directed to any parent of a young child.  I hope to bring up specific issues to us normal people who are just trying to raise a family.

Today it seems we're being attacked -- every time we turn around, another liberal ideal is being shoved down our throats.. While most of us just "deal with it", more and more I find myself just getting pissed off.  For instance, The more "gay/lesbian" crap I see on TV just pushes me farther from wanting anything to do with them.  I recently had the opportunity to make some extra cash on the side developing a website, related to the recently held "Gay Games" in Chicago, but turned the work down, as I am so fed up with everything "gay". I don't want to get off-topic, as I'm not totally anti-gay, nor will this blog be about gay bashing.

Onward, these foreign ideals may slowly mold some of us, as (young) adults, to change our core beliefs, or at least accept these completely different views as simply an "alternative lifestyle".

However, we can't underestimate what's going on.. these people are clever and they seem to be planning for the future..  Why do I say that?  More and more I notice that liberalism is taking aim at our children.  After all, children are easier to mold than adults.  They're vulnerable.. and how better to attack them through television, cartoons, radio, and damnit even the toys they play with.

In the posts to come I hope bring up some issues for discussion.. Mainly I just want to see if there are any other young parents out there who feel the same way I do.
